Mihhail Gerts has compiled the online course from his 20 years of experience in conducting over 50 professional orchestras worldwide. It conveys the essence of his methods alongside systematic reflection on the key aspects of a conductor’s profession.
With 20 years of conducting experience Mihhail Gerts has performed with over 50 professional orchestras such as Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, BBC Symphony, NHK Tokyo and many others. Alongside with guest-conducting orchestras worldwide he is currently teaching conducting and score reading at Berlin Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler and the Barenboim-Said Akademie Berlin. Gerts has extensive operatic experience having worked from 2007-2014 as a conductor at the Estonian National Opera and from 2015 - 2017 as a 1. Kapellmeister at Theater Hagen, Germany. During these 10 years he conducted over 40 productions of opera, ballet and operetta. He has also been the finalist of the Donatella Flick and Evgeny Svetlanov conducting competitions, as well as the stipendiate of the Dirigentenforum program of German Music Council. At the initial stage of the career, he was the conductor of the unique Grammy laureate Estonian National Male Choir (2005-2007). He was also music director of various commercial musical productions, which gave him the experience of working in the industry of pop-music and drama theatre. Having studied the piano and conducting first in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and later in the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, he researched the subject of conductor’s mental models during four years of doctoral studies, defending his PhD in 2011. In 2021 he founded the Gerts Academy – the first online conducting platform, which addresses systematically all the topics related to conducting.
